Linton's annual Spookfest celebration will return Saturday, Oct. 24, bringing an evening of Halloween fun, costumes, candy, and entertainment to Linton City Park.

The event will feature a golf cart and side-by-side parade, trunk-or-treat activities, a costume contest, and live music.

The Greene County Sheriff's Department is accepting applications for deputy sheriff positions, offering a starting base salary of $64,129, with an increase scheduled for the beginning of 2027.

According to the department's recruitment announcement, the base salary will increase to $66,694 effective Jan. 1, 2027.

The positions include paid time off, retirement and health care benefits, a take-home patrol vehicle, paid training, longevity-based tier pay, and access to an on-site, 24-hour fitness center.

The first of two Saturdays for early voting in Greene County will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24.

Voters may cast their ballots at either of the following locations:

• Greene County Voter Registration Office, located on the second floor in Room 225 of the Greene County Courthouse, 1 E. Main St., Bloomfield

• Center Township Fire Department, 11216 E. State Road 54, Bloomfield, near Eastern Greene High School

Beginning on the evening of Sunday, October 25, 2026, the Linton Water Department will be flushing fire hydrants. The flushing process will take four nights to complete the entire system. The flushing will begin each night at 8 p.m. and will last until 6 a.m. the following mornings. Therefore, all flushing activities will be completed by 6 a.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2026.

During the process, customers may notice a discoloration of the water. It is recommended that clothes washing be kept to a minimum during the hours listed above, as discolored water has been known to cause stains in white or light-colored clothing. Most remember that quote from Hall of Fame football coach of the Green Bay Packers, Vince Lombardi. The Packers dominated the National Football League under Lombardi in the 1960s, winning five NFL titles, including the first two Super Bowls.

Many coaches will agree winning builds character. Others will go a step further and say losing does the same. Losing, though, isn’t something coaches will ever get used to or accept. It’s not in their nature.

Linton-Stockton High School football coach Brian Oliver is no different.

Spookfest is quickly approaching, and organizers need the community’s help filling those candy buckets!

As of Oct. 21, no candy donations have been received. Individuals, businesses and organizations are encouraged to donate—even one bag of candy will help make the event special for local children.

A vehicle reported stolen from the Linton area earlier this month has been recovered in Terre Haute following an investigation by the Greene County Sheriff's Department.

A new community fundraiser is hoping to bring renewed holiday spirit to Linton’s Humphreys Park.

The Linton Electric Department has announced a planned power outage for Thursday, Oct. 22, beginning at 2 a.m.

According to the department, the outage will affect customers in the area from 12th Street NE to County Road 900 West.

The interruption in electrical service is expected to last approximately 30 minutes.

A 35-year-old Jasonville man faces two felony charges following an investigation into an alleged sexual relationship with a 17-year-old and the discovery of sexually explicit images and videos involving the minor.

I-69 northbound at the 94.5 mile marker in Greene County, north of the US 231 exit, is open and traffic can resume northbound travel. There is still a construction zone, so the Indiana State Police strongly recommends exercising caution as motorists pass through it.

Interstate-69 northbound is currently closed in Greene County, just past the U.S. 231 interchange. Motorists are asked to use State Road 58 to State Road 45 as a detour while crews repair the roadway.

The Greene County Emergency Management Office invites residents to learn how they can help make their communities safer and better prepared for emergencies through the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) initiative.
