A Solsberry man is facing a felony criminal recklessness charge after police say he drove at extremely high speeds through Greene County, ran red lights in Bloomfield, and nearly caused multiple crashes before abandoning his vehicle on State Road 54 and fleeing from a sheriff’s deputy on foot.

A Linton man faces four felony charges after a woman told police she was assaulted, threatened with a knife and prevented from leaving a residence, according to a probable cause affidavit.

The planned bridge deck overlay project on State Road 57 near Newberry has been postponed. A new start date has not yet been announced.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Department is warning residents about fraudulent phone calls from someone claiming to represent the department. According to the department, the caller tells residents they missed jury duty and may have a warrant for their arrest. The caller also threatens to initiate a criminal investigation if the person hangs up.

The scammer then requests payment to prevent the investigation or arrest warrant. The calls are not from the Greene County Sheriff’s Department or any of its employees. Residents receiving such a call should not provide personal, financial or payment information. The Sheriff’s Department emphasized that it will never call residents and demand payment over the phone.

A White River Valley High School graduate was the recipient of a $500 scholarship presented by the Association of Indiana Counties (AIC) and sponsored by SRI, Inc. The AIC and SRI, Inc. presented the scholarship to Ella Welsh at the Greene County Commissioners’ meeting.

A woman was arrested on a methamphetamine charge after Greene County sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported domestic dispute at a Solsberry gas station, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Greene County voters will have an opportunity to meet candidates seeking local and state offices during a “Meet the Candidates” event Wednesday, Sept. 16, in Linton.

The event, hosted by the Linton-Stockton Chamber of Commerce, will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Roy Clark Community Building.

Voters in the Metropolitan School District of Shakamak will decide in November whether to approve an operating referendum that could generate up to $499,000 annually for the district for no more than eight years. 

Pace Community Action Agency will begin accepting applications Oct. 1 for its 2026-27 Energy Assistance Program. The program provides a one-time benefit to help income-qualified households in Daviess, Greene, Knox and Sullivan counties offset the cost of their primary heating source. During the previous season, approximately 2,800 households received more than $1.6 million in assistance.

MicroVote will conduct a public test of Greene County’s electronic voting equipment at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28. The test will take place in the Voter Registration Office on the second floor of the Greene County Courthouse. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend and observe the testing process. A Linton man arrested Sept. 3 on an outstanding warrant is facing additional drug-related charges after police allegedly found a glass smoking device in his pocket that later field-tested positive for methamphetamine.

The Indiana Department of Transportation announces a road closure for State Road 57 in Greene County. Beginning on or around Tuesday, September 22, crews will close State Road 57 near Newberry. This closure will occur over the White River. The closure of S.R. 57 will allow for a bridge deck overlay project. Work is expected to last through mid-October, depending on the weather. The official detour for this closure is State Road 58 to State Road 67 to State Road 54. Local traffic will have access up to the point of closure. INDOT reminds drivers to slow down, use extra caution, and avoid distractions when traveling in and near work zones.
