Greenwood woman arrested on warrant after allegedly battering grandson
/A 38-year-old Greenwood woman was arrested on Sept. 22 on a warrant for domestic battery on a person less than 14 years old after allegedly battering her grandson in May.
A warrant was issued on Sept. 6 from Greene Superior Court for Kidwell’s arrest.
On May 3, Linton Police Department Officer Janzen Franklin responded to a call regarding domestic battery on 6th Street Southeast in Linton. A witness at the scene alleged Kidwell had battered her juvenile grandson. According to the probable cause affidavit, Franklin was presented with a photograph of the child’s leg with a red mark where Kidwell had allegedly slapped him. The witness said she heard the child crying and went to check on him to find him in the bathroom with Kidwell holding him by the arm.
Kidwell told Franklin, according to the probable cause affidavit, that she was giving the child a bath and was having a difficult time getting the temperature of the water the way the child wanted it. She alleged the child got out of the bathtub and kicked her. Kidwell admitted she whipped the boy as a form of discipline, further stating she commonly whips him as a form of discipline and has permission from his mother to do so.
While speaking with the child’s mother, she told Franklin that Kidwell does not have permission to whip her children while she is watching them.
Kidwell was booked into Greene County Jail on Sept. 22 where her bond was set at $4,000 surety with 10% cash allowed.
Domestic battery on a person less than 14 years old is a Level 6 Felony.
