Jeffrey “Jeff” Courtney

Jeffrey “Jeff” Courtney was born on March 16, 1957, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Gene and Mary Courtney, and raised on a horse farm in Trafalgar, Indiana. A proud 1976 graduate of Indian Creek High School, Jeff began his life of service as a firefighter at the Franklin Fire Department before joining the United States Air Force in 1980.

As a firefighter in the Air Force, Jeff traveled the world—serving in England, Colorado, South Dakota, Egypt, and the rugged wilds of Alaska, including remote Shemya AFB. It was there, on a small, windswept island at the end of the Aleutian Chain, that fate stepped in. On her third day and his first, he met Tammy Robinson. Though 1,500 men and only 50 women were stationed there, it turned out Jeff and Tammy had grown up just 90 minutes apart. It was a love meant to be. They married on January 9, 1988, and spent the next 38 years side by side in laughter, love, and life.

After retiring from the Air Force, Jeff and Tammy made their home in Bloomfield, Indiana. Jeff worked for General Electric in Bloomington until its closure, then found his calling on the open road. For 21 years, he worked as an over-the-road truck driver, until illness gently encouraged his retirement.

Jeff will be remembered for his strong work ethic, quiet wisdom, big heart, and unwavering love for his family. His presence was a comforting constant, his sense of humor subtle but sharp, and his devotion to his loved ones endless.

He is deeply missed by his loving wife, Tammy; his cherished daughter, Amanda Pearson; and his adored grandchildren: Laney Neidigh, Isaac Pearson, and Dakota Stanley. Also grieving his loss are his brother Allen Courtney; his father- and mother-in-law, Wayne and Janice Robinson; his brother-in-law Brad (Diana) Robinson; his sister Rhonda McKinney; brother-in-law Jeffrey Fryer; and several nieces and nephews who all knew the warmth of “Uncle Jeff.”

Jeff was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Gene and Mary Courtney; his sister, Cindy Fryer; and his sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Norman Whetstine.

Jeff's life was one of courage, service, and love—a journey full of adventure, devotion, and quiet strength. He leaves behind a legacy of resilience, loyalty, and heart.
