Larry Lee Goodman
/Larry Lee Goodman, 81, a lifelong resident of Bloomington, passed away at home on May 20, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Larry was born on February 27, 1944, in Bloomington to the late Paul Goodman and Velma (Ryan) Goodman.
Larry owned his own upholstery business and repaired wood furniture. He opened his business in Bloomfield after selling Funky’s Pizza King to Mark Ehly. He relocated his upholstery business to Bloomington to the woodshop building his father owned and operated on the family farm. Larry was known for his impeccable work and was proud to provide this service. He was a true craftsman.
Larry loved animals, especially horses. He and his family raised and trained registered Quarter Horses until his health required a pancreas transplant. He also loved reloading ammunition for target shooting and had a range set up on the property. He loved sharing his knowledge with others. He was generous to all. His memorable sense of humor always made others laugh.
When Larry received his pancreas transplant in 2005, the cut-off age for recipients was 47 in the United States. He was 61. Because he did so well, his experience paved the way for other older people to receive this gift of life. This was a point of pride for him.
Larry’s family was very important to him, and he supported them in whatever they chose to do. He and Susie were married for 53 years. He was unfailing in his belief in her. Larry was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He adored their daughter, Christy, and enjoyed having Michael close by. Larry was an especially proud Grandpa to Elaine, Cole, and Miles. Larry boasted to everyone about them, and he teased them mercilessly and loved them dearly.
Larry is survived by his loving wife, Susan “Susie” (Floyd) Goodman; daughter, Christina “Christy” (Michael) Hilton; grandchildren, Elaine (Cole) Hoffman and Miles Hilton; and furry family member, Opie Taylor. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Nancy (Floyd) Hudson and Lori (Floyd) Vandeventer (Sean); nieces, Carla (Ryan) Priest and Megan (Cornelius) Felder; nephews, John (Trisha) Hudson and Zachary (Alli) Vandeventer; great nieces, Elizabeth J. (Ian) Skaggs, Lauren Hudson, Maggie Hudson, Allie Hudson, Elle Malone, and Emery and Marlee Vandeventer; and great nephews, Travis Priest and Finn Malone. Larry is also survived by multiple cousins on the Ryan and Goodman sides of the family.
In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his grandparents; brother, Paul Joseph “Joe” Goodman; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Betty and Roy Lee Floyd; brother-in-law, Rick Hudson; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Larry was laid to rest at Valhalla Memory Gardens on May 23, 2025, in a private ceremony. Father Reginald Wolford, O.P., officiated.
