Linton man arrested for attempted auto theft at the Greene County Jail
/A 74-year-old Linton man was arrested Thursday after allegedly attempting to steal a vehicle at the Greene County Jail.
According to a release from the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to the jail’s parking lot and found Raymond Steadman walking away from the scene.
Jail staff reported that Steadman had been seen trying to open the hood of a gray Hyundai Elantra owned by a staff member and attempted to drive away. He reportedly drove about one car length before being stopped by jail staff.
When questioned, Steadman claimed he believed the car belonged to him.
Steadman faces charges of auto theft, a Level 6 felony, and unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle, a Level B misdemeanor.
