Linton Police Department warns of scam

The Linton Police Department received a complaint from a local business today that a scammer had contacted the business, and pretended to to be local law enforcement.

The scammer then convinced the employee to take all of the money out of the register and go by gift cards/cash cards. The employee then provided the scammer with the information from the gift cards.

Law Enforcement Agencies will never contact someone and encourage them to buy gift cards and provide them with the information.

If you receive a call from someone claiming to be local law-enforcement, it is encouraged that you disconnect the call, and call the local law-enforcement agency yourself. That will ensure that you are speaking to a legitimate police department.
