SBA offers disaster loans for homeowners, businesses; Bloomfield outreach center to close June 28

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is offering low-interest disaster loans to Indiana residents and business owners affected by recent storms. The deadline for physical damage applications is approaching, and a local outreach center is set to close this week.

Homeowners, renters, private nonprofits, and businesses in designated disaster areas — including Greene County — are eligible to apply for SBA assistance. The deadline to apply for loans related to physical property damage is Monday, July 29.

A Disaster Loan Outreach Center (DLOC) is currently operating at the Greene County Event Center, Business Office – East End, located at 4503 W. State Road 54 in Bloomfield. The center is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Thursday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.; and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The center will permanently close at 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 28.

The SBA encourages disaster survivors not to wait for insurance settlements before applying. Applicants can borrow up to the full amount of their loss, within SBA limits, and are required to use any insurance proceeds to repay the loan if applicable.

In addition to physical damage loans, the SBA is offering Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDLs) to eligible small businesses and private nonprofits in counties under the disaster declaration. These working capital loans are available even if the business sustained no physical damage, helping cover operating expenses during revenue disruption.

Key highlights of SBA disaster loans include:

  • No application fee

  • No obligation to accept the loan if approved

  • No prepayment penalty

  • No interest accrual or payments required during the first 12 months

Applications can be submitted in person at the Bloomfield outreach center before June 28 or online at lending.sba.gov. A direct link to the loan application for the declared disaster covering Brown, Greene, Jackson, Lawrence, Monroe, Morgan, and Owen counties is available at:

The SBA is also available to attend community meetings and provide in-person presentations to help inform residents and organizations about disaster recovery options.
