Linton woman faces charges of possession of meth, marijuana
/A Linton woman was arrested June 19 on multiple drug charges following a traffic stop on State Road 54.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed in Greene Superior Court, Officer Jocelyn Astleford with the Linton Police Department stopped a maroon 1994 Chevrolet truck after observing the vehicle and learning its registered owner, Tamara R. Smith, 57, had a suspended license.
Smith, who was driving the vehicle, was unable to produce her driver’s license during the stop but identified herself.
Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy Carpenter and his K-9 partner, Mater, responded to the scene. The K-9 alerted to the presence of narcotics during a free-air sniff around the vehicle.
During a search, officers reportedly found a zip-up wallet on the driver’s side floorboard containing a clear plastic bag of a crystal-like substance and a credit card with Smith’s name. Officers also located a glass smoking device, two containers with crystal-like residue, and a plastic-wrapped bag of plant-like material inside a Styrofoam cup.
Field tests confirmed the presence of methamphetamine on both the substance and the smoking device, according to the probable cause.
Smith was transported to the Greene County Jail without incident. She faces preliminary charges of Level 6 felony possession of methamphetamine, and Class B misdemeanor for possession of marijuana, and a Class C misdemeanor for possession of paraphernalia.
She is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing on June 24.
