Joshua David Newton, age 39, of Petersburg, formerly of Linton, passed away on Friday, February 21, 2025. He was born in Linton on March 27, 1985, the son of James E. and Tamberly L. (Poe) Newton.

Josh was a 2004 graduate of Linton-Stockton High School. He served in the United States Air Force during the Operation Iraqi Freedom War, serving our country for eight years. He formerly worked for the Gibson County Coal Company and current worked as a head potman at ALCOA in Newburgh, Indiana.

Josh was a Notre Dame football fan, enjoyed John Wayne movies, fishing, and trying new foods, especially hot sauce. He loved his family and friends, most especially his daughter. He was a devoted husband and daddy.

He is survived by his wife whom he married on August 27, 2016, Alyssa J. (Mehringer) Newton; daughter, Octavia; parents, Jimmy and Tammi Newton; brother, Jeremy B. (Gina) Newton; maternal grandmother, Patty Poe; nephews, Dylan (Sarah) Simon and Devon Simon; great-niece, Vivian Simon, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Chad and Brandee Mehringer; sister-in-law, Dakota Mehringer; one aunt; two uncles; and several cousins.

Private arrangements are in care of Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton. A Celebration of Life will be held this summer.

Memorial contributions may be made for the benefit of his daughter, Octavia Newton, through the funeral home.
